Memorial Day Holiday Will Affect Refuse Collection Service Schedule In Columbus

City trash service in Columbus will not be provided on Monday, May 28, 2012, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday.  Observance of the holiday will prompt changes in the collection schedule for City regular trash in Columbus as noted below. 

For residents assigned a collection color:

Collection of trash in color-coded collection areas will rotate forward one day, the week of  the Memorial Day Holiday as follows:

  • Monday, May 28:               No Collection
  • Tuesday, May 29:              Navy
  • Wednesday, May 30:         Pink
  • Thursday, May 31:             Ruby
  • Friday, June 1:                   Gold
  • Monday, June 4:                Gray

The color-coded schedule will rotate again on 4th of July Holiday, July 4.

Zone-Area Collection Schedule

  • Customers who live in zone-schedule areas have a two-day collection window
  • Customers with dumpsters or other non-wheeled collection containers receive collection within their two-day window throughout the year
  • Zone customers with a wheeled regular trash container and a Monday-Tuesday window for pickup will receive their Memorial Day Holiday week collection on the second day of their window

Curbside Yard Waste and Subscription Recycling Collection

  • Yard waste and curbside subscription recycling service will be collected on their own schedule.  Collection of curbside yard waste and subscription recycling scheduled for the Memorial Day Holiday, May 28, will be delayed one day, with collections taking place Tuesday through Saturday

NOTE:  Bi-weekly collection of recyclables in the City of Columbus new residential recycling program will begin Monday, June 4, in:

  • Franklinton
  • Hilltop
  • Southwest side
  • Westland and other Far Westside areas
  • Parts of the Northwest Side
  • In only the above areas where the collection of recyclables will be collected under the new residential recycling program, residents should place their 64-gallon blue recycling cart at the same location that their regular trash is collected

Note:  Yard waste in the above areas will be collected on alternate weeks

 Columbus residents can also dispose of their yard waste at any one of nine free yard-waste drop-off locations (please call ahead for hours of operation):
